Day 17 : What I’m working on

#marchmeetthemaker WHAT I’M WORKING ON Each January I set myself a list of goals for the year ahead. This year my main goal is to revamp my website. It’s going well so far but there are a few things left to do. I’m currently making new stock for my next market and Potfest in June. Product development happens continually behind the scenes and from the feedback Iv’e received so far I will definitely be adding hanging planters and compost bins to my range. I’m also working on having a better work/life balance but wondering if/when this will ever happen?! 😂 #teawithjud #potter #pottery #knitter #maker #ceramics #ceramicdesign #meetthemaker #selfemployment #independent #smallbusiness #madeinscotland #productdevelopment #rattray #blairgowrie #perthshire #scotland

Day 19 : Dream collaboration

#marchmeetthemaker DREAM COLLABORATION I like doing my own thing so I’m not really interested in a collaboration. If anything I would love to do a workshop swop, live in Iceland for a year and make some pottery there. I went in 2012 and it was amazing. I loved it so much and have wanted to go back ever since. The landscape is incredible, like being on another planet, AND you can even buy wool in the supermarket! Actually I wouldnt even mind going to Canada, Greenland, Scandinavia or Russia, I’m not fussy, just anywhere with snow, ice and woolly jumpers! #teawithjud #potter #knitter #maker #pottery #ceramics #smallbusiness #selfemployed #independent #meetthemaker #iceland #iloveiceland #ice #jokulsarlon #iceberglagoon #iceberg #ice #blacksand #waterfall #lavafield #reykjavik #wool #adventure #travel #dreams

Day 20 : Design process

#marchmeetthemaker DESIGN PROCESS My design process starts by me thinking “what do I need?” Or “what will make my life easier?” I weigh out some clay, throw and the draw a sketch after to record my measurements. I find my process evolves quite naturally. I can visualise how to glaze the piece if I have it in front of me. Then, most importantly I test the product. If it works, great, and if not I try again readjusting measurements, shape or glaze proportions. I am really lazy at sketching and will only do a doodle if I’m out of the workshop and an idea pops into my head I made this taller plant pot for a plant that was gowing too big for its first pot! It fits perfectly. I really like it and might make some more. #teawithjud #potter #pottery #ceramics #ceramicdesign #design #ukdesign #designprocess #throwing #handmade #madeinscotland #meetthemaker #plantpot #vase #tumbler #plant #smallbusiness #selfemploted #independent #rattray #blairgowrie #perthshire #scotland
