A very special wedding is taking place this September between 2 players from a World Champion Pipe Band – Field Marshal Montgomery.

I was asked to make them a dinner set as a wedding present. As all commissions are welcome, I thought I would branch out from my usual 6 colour ranges and accept a new challenge. Tartan. And not just any tartan, the Field Marshal Tartan; Drumalig. Oh my.

What a challenge indeed! My first experiments were soooooooo bad! I was certain that this would be my first and last attempt at what seemed an impossible pattern. I thought I was never going to get it right. Several experiments later something pretty amazing happened!

This has definitely been the hardest commission yet, but I am so pleased with the results and I hope you like them too.

Lesson learned from this project – don’t say yes so hastily to tartan commissions.
